Yesss has their central management system available 24/7 after implementing Standby™.
Yesss is the UK’s fastest growing electrical wholesaler. Since opening in 2012, the company has grown to 100+ branches in the United Kingdom and Europe.
Their strategy is to deliver superior customer service by hiring knowledgeable staff and supporting them with a modern technology platform. The in-house developed central management system, powered by an Oracle database, provides product information and advanced reporting and data analytics functions to internal and external users.
Yesss requires the central management system to provide accurate data for users when they need it.
This means the production database must be available even in the event of a failure at their primary site. Furthermore, usage of the primary database needs to be managed to not impact the online transaction systems as there is the potential for the intensive access requirements of mobile users and reporting systems to impact the system’s performance.
Yess asked their partner Red Stack for a resilient and proven Disaster Recovery (DR) solution for their existing Oracle infrastructure.
Yesss and Red Stack separated mobile application and online transaction databases to prevent mobile application usage from affecting their primary database’s performance, with the application now connected to a replicated database.
For disaster recovery, a physically replicated standby database using Dbvisit Standby was chosen. The solution enables Yesss to retain their Oracle SE databases and achieve best practice disaster recovery. Disaster resilience is ensured by replicating between two geographically dispersed locations.
The products were quick and easy to set up and get running using Dbvisit’s online training material and documentation. If we needed additional help, Dbvisit’s support line always provided us with excellent responses, often within three or four minutes!
Dbvisit Standby was quick and easy to install and configure. Standby’s simple UI enabled Yesss to setup the system using just the online training material, alongside a few interactions with Dbvisit’s support team and support from Red Stack.
Yesss are able maintain the Disaster Recovery solution internally and have been impressed by the knowledge and responsiveness of the Dbvisit Support team. Simon Pritchard from Yesss says; “The products were quick and easy to set up and get running using Dbvisit’s online training material and documentation. If we needed additional help, Dbvisit’s support line always provided us with excellent responses, often within three or four minutes!”.
A Recovery Point Objective (RPO) of 15 minutes is achieved with high resilience to all disaster events using a physically replicated database architecture.
4 years later, Yesss still use Standby to protect their central management system and databases. They ultimately rely on Standby to defend their brand image. Dbvisit Standby performs a replication every 15 minutes, giving a Recovery Point Objective (RPO) of 15 minutes.
