Seamless Disaster Recovery with Dbvisit StandbyMP and Oracle Full Stack Disaster Recovery (FSDR)

Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI) offers competitive features and pricing for organisations looking to migrate their databases to the cloud. As part of the offering, environments can be configured with strong Disaster Recovery solutions, including Data Guard for Oracle Enterprise Edition and Dbvisit StandbyMP for Oracle Standard Edition. However, these solutions still rely on both the Application and Database layers of the stack being recovered separately, often by different teams, causing longer and more complex recovery.

Full Stack Disaster Recovery (FSDR), is a comprehensive new Oracle orchestration solution provided on OCI that solves the challenges of separate application and database recovery. FSDR automates DR processes for the entire application stack, ensuring recovery of both Oracle applications and infrastructure in the event of a disaster. What makes FSDR unique is that it covers the entire stack, from applications to middleware and the underlying database, providing a seamless and very powerful recovery process.

Working on the concept of ‘plans’ FSDR dashboard enables you to bundle tasks, scripts and assets together to execute a range of DR-related functions with a single click. This greatly simplifies each process and ensures consistency across different sites and regions.

Oracle has worked with Dbvisit to integrate StandbyMP, now enabling FSDR to be fully compatible with Oracle Standard Edition (SE), SQL Server and PostgreSQL databases.

The addition of StandbyMP to the FSDR stack offers users three key opportunities:

  1. StandbyMP allows organisations to remain on SE and realise the cost savings of not having to upgrade to an Enterprise license.

  2. Organisations can consolidate all Oracle databases, SE and Enterprise licences into one unified DR Plan, greatly simplifying management and disaster response.

  3. StandbyMP allows third-party database integration enabling both PostgreSQL and SQL Server databases to be added to your FSDR Plans

Combining Dbvisit StandbyMP with Oracle FSDR provides a powerful, integrated solution for DR. Here’s how these tools work together to safeguard your data:

  • Comprehensive Coverage: Protects all layers of the IT stack, including applications, middleware, databases, and infrastructure.

  • Automated Recovery: Automated failover and failback processes to minimize downtime and manual intervention.

  • Resiliency: Replication technologies to ensure that data is continuously copied to a DR site in a separate region

  • Consistency: Maintains data consistency across all layers, ensuring that the recovered environment is fully operational.

  • Testing: Allows for simple non-disruptive testing of the DR plan to ensure that it works as expected.

  • Compliance: Helps organizations meet regulatory and compliance requirements for DR and business continuity

Having a robust DR solution that is scalable and easy to use is essential. Dbvisit StandbyMP, in conjunction with Oracle FSDR, provides a comprehensive, integrated solution that ensures your Oracle SE databases are always protected and available. Whether you’re dealing with hardware failures, natural disasters, or other unforeseen events, this powerful combination will help you maintain data integrity and business continuity.
